Students from Milbrook Elementary school RYP program spent the spring semester of 2009 creating a vegetable garden at their apartment complex. Students participated in every aspect of the garden's creation, from tilling the soil and building fences to watering, weeding, transplanting and direct seeding! This project served as a bridge between student's home culture, where many of them lived and worked on farms, and their current lives in Baltimore. This was an exciting project for me as a community artist, because the garden became a place where my students shared many aspects of their home country with me while we worked together.
