Spain 2013

A series of images from a family vacation to Barcelona and Costa Brava, Spain, for my cousin's wedding.   This was my first trip in years that was purely a vacation, with no community-based projects attached.  After years of travel in developing countries, I the relative 'ease' of movement that I felt in Spain was quite a change of pace.

Honduras 2012

Here is a small collection of photos taken during my visit to the Hearts for Honduras School.  While the director of my trip was as mindful of our safety as possible, I heard gunshots several times, a few times very close to me.  My trip was spent almost exclusively at the school, at the hotel, or riding in transit between the two.  I learned upon returning to the US that Honduras is currently the murder capital of the world (outside of regions with armed conflict).  Not surprisingly, this violence occurs against the backdrop of a lush mountainous countryside.

India 2010

In September, I spent 17 days traveling in northern India.  This trip was deeply significant for me for a number of reasons.  I have viewed India as a sort of travel "Mecca" - a place that truly pushes the boundaries of a traveller. I've also developed a personal attachment to this country because my partner is Indian.  This trip was really an opportunity to understand where he comes from.  My visit was filled with warm, welcoming people who offered us fantastic food, unrivaled hospitality, excitement, and curiosity.

Nicaragua 2010

In July and August, I participated in the Art of Solidarity program through MICA.  The program enables artists from the United States to work alongside Nicaraguan-based art and community organizations to facilitate mural projects and create short documentary films.  Our process and products are posted in the Community Work section of this website.   These photos document my time there, and my exploration of my new environment.

Viet Nam and Southeast Asia

2005-2006

After graduating from college in spring 2005, I decided to embark upon a grand adventure.  I selected Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, as my destination, and moved there to teach English for a year.  Living in Vietnam moulded me in many ways - it changed me as an artist, exposed me to extreme socio-economic disparities, challenged me to live amongst a different set of cultural values, required me to re-evaluate my identity as someone from the United States, and made me aware of a myriad of other things.

I will always remember HCMC as a place full of chaos, with a distinct rhythm all it's own, full of contradictions, transition, and energy.

While in Vietnam, I traveled to other countries in Southeast Asia, including Cambodia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Macau.
